ALFRED MULLER (1869-1940) [PEACOCKS.] 25 1/2x63 1/8 inches, 65x161 cm. Condition A- / B+: trimmed upper margin. Japan. Art Nouveau artists loved peacocks, with their extravagant multi-colored feathers. Müller, who designed a handful of similar, horizontal format decorative panels, approaches these birds from an unusual perspective, depicting from ground level, so their beautiful plumage is seen up-close, as are the plants and vegetation that surround them as they strut around.
